The Rising Inflected

You need Flash to listen:

The Rising Inflected is a radio programme by and for people with Rising Inflected Syndrome (RIS). The show is broadcast from Solihull Tech student Radio Station. RIS is the deeply irritating propensity to speak as if continually asking for approval. The show incorporates a phone in helpline, outside broadcasts from action groups and testimonies. It is hosted by Carl Wood and Mark Hately. Carl and Mark both live at home with their mums but consider themselves to be permanent backpackers and regularly flit off to third world countries on the backpacker circuit to live it up in hostels, pull and get high. Carl believes he is making global music connections to develop his “Shit Hop” output. Mark does it to get laid. The trips are funded by community health grants meant to help people with RIS.

This is what one lucky listener who caught the show RRR thought:

G’day. I just want to congratulate you for the Upward Inflection show that temporarily replaced the Party Show at midnight last Saturday. These two characters were such a breath of fresh air. Please give them a regular late-night timeslot. I particularly liked their theme music and the two tracks they played from South Pacific. In fact I enjoyed all the weird old music they played. It’s simply not heard anywhere else. Neither is their humour. I have no idea who Carl and Mark are but hope they go a long way. It’s the best two hours of radio I’ve heard for ages – particularly as I was initially disappointed that the Party Show wasn’t on. Keep up the good innovative work.

Cheers (with an upward inflection!) Ian J
